You described it perfectly Dad! I'm just glad you convinced me it was worthy of trying when I was being stubborn about seeking fish elsewhere. One of my favorite parts about fly fishing now are the days you and I, sometimes Kaitlyn, sneak over to the Boise River right here in town. Definetely some of my fondest times and memories~

Fishing the Boise river has always been special. I think of all the camping/fishing trips away with less success then within five minutes of my house. The Green Belt with bicycles/walkers and Floaters rafting down the river during the summer, can be distracting but still worth fishing. There's always comments and the main question, "did you catch anything". Fish and Game plant stealhead at various points on the river so if you want, you can also go for the big boys. If nothing else its down right beautiful the whole length of the river from Lucky Peak Dam through the city of Boise.

It is really nice to have places to go that are close. I feel lucky in that respect also, but I sure love dream of going to some far off place and soak in some different scenery!

Good post, makes us all realize that opportunity to enjoy the things we love to do are every where, and can be found in our own backyard, not just in some far off or exotic sounding location.

Good lesson here, life is short, enjoy it while you can!

Thanks!

Once in a while we just need to stop and smell the roses. Or fish the waters right under our noses. Nicely scribed, again. Wish I had a river like yours within 5 minutes of my house. Oh, wait- I do!

Twenty some odd years ago, I used to live over in Nampa. I found myself fishing the Boise River from Eagle into town quite a bit. Always enjoyed the time and the serenity. Yes, I said serenity. It was hard to believe there was a bustling community just a few yards away. Thanks for helping me recall those times.

That's really cool. i just thought everyone fished their local waters too....between trips that is.

i didn't realize that a river should be called anything original. Here in Florida, they've named rivers after native American words that make them unpronounceable, so folks usually say "Yep...went up by Chiefland to fish the river" or something like that. Or, in my case, i'm 5 minutes away from about 2 dozen saltwater locations to choose from....

Since i know nothing about Idaho besides Boise and potatoes, i've got nothing....
